Aviation Facilities

Our Mission:  To assist the U.S. Coast Guard with our privately owned aircraft.

Air Operations Missions:

SAR Mission - Search And Rescue call out or the air equivalent to a vessel safety patrol. 

Enforcement of Laws and Treaties - Air support of a Coast Guard law enforcement mission. (Our involvement in this area can only be passive) 

MEP Mission - Air support in the area of Marine Environmental Protection. 

Ice Operations Mission - (Not a mission available in Mobile, AL) 

Logistics Mission - Transportation of personnel. 

Training Mission - Training missions involving air operations

Over water Marine Patrols 

Safety Patrols

Auxiliary Air Qualifications:

All pilots who participate in the Aux Air program must first meet all of the FAA qualifications and currency requirements for the ratings they hold.

To qualify as a Aux Air pilot (Co Pilot) you must hold at least a “Private” pilots license and have a minimum of 200 flight hours. You must pass a written test and attend annual safety and emergency egress training. You must also fly a minimum of 3 missions and 6 hours every 6 months.

To qualify to fly SAR cases (First Pilot) the pilot must have a minimum of 500 flight hours and pass a SAR procdures checkride

To qualify as “Aircraft Commander” the pilot must have a minimum of 1000 hours and hold an “Instrument Rating”.

“Observers” must pass a written test and attend the annual training required of pilots. Observers must also fly a required number of hours per year.
